It needs to fit well in the space – both physically and stylistically – and provide the right amount of light based on how you use the area. As a rule, you want to have an idea of the specific location where you'll be putting your wall sconce, or any other light fixtures, before you make your final choice.

And while few wall sconces are bright enough to provide overall ambient light in a room alone, installing multiples around the room or as a focal point can be a beautiful and dramatic solution.
